On January 24th, 2025, Shule Direct celebrated the International Day of Education by organizing an engaging and insightful debate at Kambangwa Secondary School. The debate focused on the motion: “The use of AI in education is to enhance education rather than replace human educators.”

This discussion provided a platform for students to critically analyze the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, particularly in relation to Teacher Kidevu, Shule Direct’s AI-powered learning assistant. The debate encouraged students to explore both the benefits and challenges of integrating AI into learning environments.

Key Points from the Debate

Proposers Arguments:

  • AI is a powerful tool that supports teachers with innovative teaching methods and diverse learning solutions.

  • It enhances education by improving efficiency and making learning more engaging and accessible.

  • Despite its challenges, AI is essential for modernizing and advancing education systems.

Opposers Arguements:

  • AI could hinder creativity and critical thinking by fostering over-reliance on technology.

  • Overuse of AI may reduce students’ problem-solving skills and intellectual engagement.

  • AI’s addictive nature could weaken human interactions in learning environments.

Through this debate, students developed a deeper understanding the role of AI in education, evaluating both its advantages and potential drawbacks. The discussion also highlighted how Teacher Kidevu serves as a valuable learning companion, helping to simplify complex topics and make education more interactive.

The debate fostered peer-to-peer learning, allowing students to exchange ideas, sharpen their critical thinking and enhance their public speaking skills.

This debate was not only a celebration of the International Day of Education but also an opportunity to recognize the vital role of AI in enhancing teaching and learning. By engaging in meaningful discussions, students gained a clearer perspective on how AI, like Our very own  Teacher Kidevu, can support educators and learners while ensuring that human teachers remain irreplaceable in the education system.
